The small town of Champion, WI (just North West of Green Bay) holds a very special title. It is the only “approved,” Marion Apparition (sighting of the Virgin Mary) approved by the Vatican. The National Shrine of Our Lady of Good Hope fields tour buses and pilgrims from all over the continent. A young farm girl named Adele Briese had 3 visitations from the Holy Mother in 1859 urging her to bring her fellow townsfolk back to the faith. The small church has a beautiful courtyard in back with statuary, and my favorite in addition to Briese’s grave, the small basement or “crypt” under the chapel with devotional statue was very moving.
