August Road Trip down 169….
So busy getting ready for the big Art opening at the Phipps this month, I wasn’t able to blog the August Trip. My niece Aeryle was good enough to join for me for a trip down highway 169 to the abandoned Ghost Town of San Francisco, MN. Only 1 beautiful old Farmhouse and some barn ruins left, but they are positioned on a beautiful bluff in the Minnesota River Valley National Wildlife Refuge. The drive down on some of the backroads west of the highway and river are truly Lake Wobegone….
Further down the Minnesota River in Le Sueur, MN is a large hill south of town called “Brewery Hill.” This area was supposedly named for an old Hermit who lived in a cave and had his own still. The current legend in the area is that “The Spook Light of Brewery Hill,” is a red light and the spirit of the old Hermit and that is can be seen near the train tracks on the west side of the hill.
